Breast Augmentation

Breast Lift

Breast Reduction

Revision Breast Surgery

Breast Augmentation / Breast Enhancement Or Enlargement

Procedure:

Placement of an implant under the breast tissue or under the pectoralis muscle

Indications:

If you desire to have larger breasts, if you want to improve the position of the nipple or if you want to correct slight differences between the breasts.

Considerations:

What size do you want to be? The best way is to look at pictures and imagine yourself with the size. Share this with your surgeon.

Very small breasts may not get optimal results with very large implants.

In most patients, there may be a preference to place the implant under the muscle, however, some patients may benefit more with a placement above the muscle (your surgeon should give you good reasons why).

Breast augmentation may or may not improve any differences between the breasts. It is helpful to notice any difference in size, positioning of the nipples and the shoulders. All this will affect the outcome of your surgery.

How is the surgery performed:

An incision is placed either under the breast (breast fold), around the nipple, in the armpit or in the belly button. The armpit approach uses special cameras and for many patients seems to be the preferred way. A pocket is made in the desired location and an empty implant is positioned. The implant is then filled with the appropriate amount of saline (sterile salt water).

After Surgery:

All instructions are individualized for each patient according to their needs, please consult the instruction sheet.

Dressings are typically removed the next day.

Some patients will be instructed to use a bra or a wrap.

Massaging the breast after surgery is encouraged since this enhances the blood circulation to the breast and speeds up your recovery. Massaging also softens the breasts and reduces the chance for capsular contracture. (in certain cases, massaging might be recommended).

After 2-3 days most patients will experience a dramatic decrease in their discomfort. Oral pain medication will alleviate most of your pain.

Oral antibiotics are started one day before surgery and continued for 4 days after wards.

If you have any sutures, these are usually removed after 7 days.

Light activities can be resumed as tolerated. Aerobic activities can be started in about 3 weeks.

Follow up visits – usually within the first three days.

Breast Lift

Procedure:

Repositioning of the nipple and breast tissue by removing excess skin and reshaping the breast. Results in an improved position and contour of the breast.

Indications:

Sagging breast.

Considerations:

Breasts that are not the same size may benefit from a reduction or augmentation of one of the breasts.

A lift without the placement of an implant may deliver the outcome that you want.

To correct the sagginess, skin must be removed and this requires placing a scar on your breast. Sometimes, minimal sagginess can be corrected with just an implant

A variety of skin products and laser techniques are available that may improve the appearance of scars.

Procedure description:

An incision is placed around the nipple area and along the lower part of the breast. Skin is removed, the breast is repositioned upwards by partially freeing it from the skin. The skin is then tightened around the breast tissue.

After surgery:

All instructions are individualized for each patient according to their needs, please consult the instruction sheet.

The breast are gently bandaged and sometimes a bra is placed. Dressings are removed after 2-3 days and reapplied as necessary

Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.

Sutures are usually removed in 7-10 days.

Light activities can be resumed as tolerated.

No ice on the breast skin.

Breast Reduction

Procedure

Removal of breast tissue and skin to reduce the size, to reshape and reposition the breast.

Indications:

Breasts that are too large and heavy.

Breast that may cause a variety of symptoms including back, shoulder and neck pain, poor posture and bra-strap indentations.

Excessive breast size, which may impact self-esteem and self-consciousness.

Breasts that are not symmetric.

Considerations:

What size do you really want and that is proportionate with your body.

The nipple is not cut off.

Scarring.

Minimal discomfort and fast recuperation time.

Procedure description:

Prior to surgery, the intended incisions are marked on your body. Under general anesthesia, incisions are made around the areola (pigmented area of the nipple), extend vertically along the lower portion of the breast, and horizontally just above the fold under the breast.(this is considered by many the most reliable and safe type surgery).

Excess breast tissue, fat and skin are removed and the nipple is lifted to its new position.

After surgery:

The patient goes home wearing a loose bra which helps hold the dressings on breasts in the correct position.

Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication.

Sutures are usually removed in 12-14 days.

Light activities can be resumed as tolerated.

Breast revision Surgery:

Procedure:

Removal, replacement or reconstruction of the breast to address specific concerns outlined by the patient.

Indications:

Whenever individual expectations are not reached, revision or reconstructive surgery may be considered.

Several possible reasons may include:

Not the right size

Unequal in size

Displaced implant to the side or too low (bottoming out)

Appearance of rippling

Excessive firmness

Considerations:

All outcomes are affected by the surgical techniques, how your body responds and what you do. There are never any guarantees, only best case scenarios.

It is important to weigh the benefits with the risks of surgery and you should be familiar with these.

Sometimes it is best to wait several months up to a year prior to any revision.

The quality and integrity of your tissues.

Going larger may not be healthy to your skin.

Repeated surgeries may increase the risk of scarring

Get second opinions.

When possible, consult your original surgeon for any revision, its ok to get second opinions! (just make sure you get it from a well qualified surgeon - one that normally does not discredit other surgeons).

Procedure description:

Treatment plans are individualized to satisfy the specific objectives. Options include, simple exchange of implant or replacement with a silicone implant. Removal or cutting into the scar tissue. Tightening of the pocket surrounding the implant. breast lif.

After surgery: general Considerations for all types of surgeries
